The City of Danao is taking urgent, compulsory action to protect its residents from the approaching Typhoon Uwan, following the tragic lessons learned from the recent Typhoon Tino. Under the leadership of Mayor Nito Durano, the local government is leaving nothing to chance.
Mandatory Evacuations and Precautionary Measures
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has announced it will enforce the forced evacuation of residents living in high-risk zones. This decisive move comes as the city was placed under Storm Signal No. 1 starting Saturday, November 8, 2025.
Authorities are specifically calling on people in low-lying and landslide-prone areas to immediately relocate to the nearest safe ground or to stay with family in secure locations. The city government is emphatic about preventing further loss of life, especially after the severe impact of Typhoon Tino just days earlier on November 4, 2025.
City on Red Alert and Past Trauma from Typhoon Tino
The municipal Emergency Operation Center is now open 24/7 and has elevated its status to Red Alert. This ensures seamless coordination with other agencies for a swift emergency response. All 42 barangays in Danao have been warned to remain vigilant.
The memory of Typhoon Tino is still fresh and painful. Official records show that the previous typhoon claimed nine lives in Danao City and displaced 4,401 families who sought shelter in 40 different evacuation centers. With Typhoon Uwan looming, the number of evacuees is expected to rise once again.
Residents are strongly advised to create their own safety plans and to heed all official warnings without delay.
