The low pressure area (LPA) currently outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) may develop into a tropical storm, according to the weather bureau on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
LPA Location and Movement
In a press conference, Daniel James Villamil of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the trough or extension of the LPA is bringing rains to northern and eastern parts of Mindanao. As of 8 a.m., the LPA was located 1,370 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao.
Villamil added that the LPA could enter PAR later this week and will be named “Domeng.”
Expected Rainfall and Affected Areas
“Later today, it will bring rain over most of Mindanao and Palawan,” he said. Villamil noted that Metro Manila and other parts of the country will continue to experience generally fair weather, but with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.
However, he clarified that the main focus now is the impact of the bad weather on the southwesterly windflow (habagat). “The potential cyclone could trigger the southwesterly windflow and cause scattered rains and thunderstorms over Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Soccsksargen, Western Visayas, Negros Island, and Palawan, likely from Thursday to Saturday,” he said.
Potential Hazards
Heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides are possible in affected areas, Villamil added. Pagasa expects the southwesterly windflow to prevail over Palawan and the western parts of Visayas and Mindanao until the weekend.
Due to the potential cyclone, moderate to rough sea conditions are also expected over the eastern part of the country towards the weekend, according to Villamil.
