The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has made the proactive decision to cancel all its Season 101 events scheduled for Sunday, November 9, 2025. This move is a direct safety precaution due to the approaching threat of typhoon Uwan.
Postponed Basketball Matchups
The cancellation directly impacts two highly anticipated basketball games that were set to take place at the Mall of Asia Arena. The first game featured defending champion Mapua University, holding a 5-5 record, against Arellano University (3-6).
Mapua was looking to build on the momentum from its recent narrow 78-73 victory over Lyceum of the Philippines University, a win powered by strong performances from JC Recto and Yam Concepcion. Arellano, on the other hand, was aiming to break its challenging three-game losing streak.
The second canceled matchup was a Group B clash between last year's finalist, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (6-4), and Emilio Aguinaldo College (4-5). Both teams were eager to get back on the court and recover from their recent losses.
Official Statement and Broader Impact
The league formalized the cancellation in a memorandum dated November 8, 2025. In its announcement, the NCAA stated, "In view of the forecasted unfavorable weather conditions, please be informed that the NCAA Basketball Games/Chess Tournament scheduled for Nov. 9 is hereby canceled."
The decision was made with the primary goal of safeguarding everyone involved. The NCAA emphasized that the action was taken "to prioritize the safety and well-being of our student-athletes, officials, and spectators."
It was not only the senior's basketball games that were affected. The association also confirmed the postponement of the juniors' basketball games and the chess tournament.
Looking Ahead
Fans and teams are now looking forward to the announcement of the new schedule. The NCAA has assured that the rescheduling of all affected games will be announced once weather conditions improve and final coordination with the NCAA Management Committee is completed.
