Pagasa Forecasts Cloudy Skies and Scattered Rains for Cebu in Early February
Residents of Cebu, known as Sugboanon, should prepare for overcast conditions and intermittent rainfall during the first week of February 2026. This weather pattern is attributed to the influence of a shear line, as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Visayas.
Weather Outlook and Potential Impacts
In a telephone interview on Saturday, January 31, 2026, Pagasa Visayas weather specialist Ana Dumdum detailed the forecast. She indicated that the weather is expected to remain predominantly cloudy until February 3. Although the shear line is projected to have a more significant impact on Eastern Visayas, certain areas in northern Cebu are also likely to experience its effects.
Dumdum further explained that the northeast monsoon is anticipated to intensify during this period. This will bring light to occasionally heavy rains, which could result in thunderstorms and lightning. She issued a cautionary note for small sea vessels, warning of potentially hazardous conditions. Consequently, island-hopping trips may be deemed unsafe during this time.
Extended Forecast and Regional Advisories
Looking ahead to the second week of February, from February 4 to 10, Pagasa Visayas has indicated a low probability that cloud clusters will develop into a low-pressure area (LPA). In their 4 a.m. bulletin on Saturday, Pagasa highlighted that the shear line will contribute to cloudy skies, scattered showers, and occasional thunderstorms across the Visayas region. This includes areas such as Romblon, the Bicol Region, and parts of Northern Mindanao and the Caraga region.
The agency has issued warnings regarding the potential for sudden flooding or landslides in these areas due to moderate to heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and other parts of the country are expected to experience partly cloudy skies with light rains, influenced by the amihan or northeast monsoon.
Additionally, moderate to rough seas are forecasted for the northern and eastern sections of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Residents and travelers in affected regions are advised to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins and take necessary precautions.
