PAGASA Issues Weather Advisory for Ash Wednesday Across the Philippines
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has released a weather bulletin forecasting cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall in various regions of the country on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2026. This weather pattern is attributed to the combined effects of the prevailing northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, and the easterlies.
Impact of Northeast Monsoon on Luzon
According to PAGASA, the northeast monsoon has intensified and is currently influencing weather conditions in Luzon. Specific areas, including Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, and Camarines Norte, are expected to experience cloudy skies accompanied by rainfall due to this weather system. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, also as a result of the amihan.
Easterlies Affecting Mindanao
In Mindanao, the easterlies—warm winds originating from the Pacific Ocean—are bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, particularly in the Caraga and Davao Regions. The rest of Mindanao is forecast to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, driven by the same easterly winds.
No Weather Disturbances Monitored
PAGASA has confirmed that there are currently no low-pressure areas or other weather disturbances being monitored within or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. This indicates that the rainy conditions are primarily due to the seasonal monsoon and easterly patterns, rather than any developing storm systems.
The state weather bureau advises residents in affected areas to stay updated on further announcements and take necessary precautions during this period of increased rainfall.
