The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a weather bulletin forecasting significant rainfall across various parts of the country due to the combined influence of easterlies and the northeast monsoon, locally known as "amihan." This weather pattern is expected to bring a mix of cloudy skies, scattered rains, and isolated thunderstorms, posing potential hazards in affected areas.
Easterlies to Bring Heavy Rains and Thunderstorms
According to PAGASA's 4 a.m. bulletin, the easterlies are set to impact several regions, including the Davao Region, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, South Cotabato, and Sarangani. These areas will experience cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rains and thunderstorms. The weather bureau has issued a warning that moderate to at times heavy rainfall in these regions could lead to flash floods or landslides, urging residents to take necessary precautions and stay alert to local advisories.
Northeast Monsoon Effects on Northern Islands
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or "amihan" will affect Batanes and the Babuyan Islands, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains. This weather system is typically associated with cooler temperatures and milder precipitation compared to the easterlies, but it still contributes to the overall wet conditions across the archipelago.
Metro Manila and Rest of the Country
For Metro Manila and the remaining parts of the Philippines, PAGASA predicts partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, primarily driven by the easterlies. This means that while not all areas will experience heavy rainfall, sporadic weather disturbances are likely, which could affect daily activities and travel plans.

In addition to the rainfall forecast, PAGASA reported that light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will prevail over the entire archipelago.
