The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a weather advisory highlighting the continued influence of two major weather systems affecting large portions of the country. A shear line persists over Southern Luzon, while the northeast monsoon, locally known as "amihan," remains the dominant force across the rest of Luzon, leading to generally cloudy and rainy conditions that are expected to impact numerous regions.
Shear Line Impacts Southern Luzon and Visayas Areas
According to PAGASA's 4 a.m. update, the shear line is specifically affecting areas in Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate. Residents in these provinces should prepare for cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms. This weather pattern is a result of the shear line, which is a zone where winds converge, often leading to enhanced cloud formation and precipitation.
Northeast Monsoon Brings Rain to Northern and Central Luzon
Simultaneously, the northeast monsoon is exerting its influence over Cagayan Valley, the rest of the Bicol Region, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Aurora, Rizal, Laguna, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon. These areas will experience cloudy skies with rains, with rainfall intensity ranging from moderate to at times heavy. PAGASA has warned that such conditions pose a significant risk of flash floods and landslides, urging residents to stay vigilant.
Weather Conditions in Other Regions
In the Cordillera Administrative Region, cloudy skies with light rains are forecasted due to the ongoing effects of the amihan. For Metro Manila and the remaining parts of Luzon, the weather will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated light rains, offering some relief but still indicating the monsoon's presence.
Across the rest of the country, localized thunderstorms are expected to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. However, PAGASA cautions that severe thunderstorms could still develop, potentially leading to flash floods or landslides, especially during periods of intense rainfall.
