PAGASA: Widespread Rains Expected Nationwide Due to Shear Line, Amihan
Shear Line, Amihan to Bring Rains Across Philippines

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a weather advisory for Monday, January 26, 2026, indicating that most parts of the Philippines will experience rainfall due to two dominant weather systems. This widespread precipitation is expected to affect various regions across the archipelago, prompting concerns for potential hazards.

Shear Line Triggers Scattered Rains and Thunderstorms

According to PAGASA, the shear line will be the primary driver of weather disturbances in several key areas. This weather phenomenon is forecast to cause scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms in Caraga, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Sorsogon, Masbate, Camiguin, and Misamis Oriental. Residents in these regions should remain vigilant as moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to dangerous conditions.

Potential Risks from Heavy Precipitation

The agency has warned that the intense downpours in the affected areas may result in flash floods or landslides. These natural hazards pose significant threats to communities, infrastructure, and agricultural lands. Local authorities are advised to monitor the situation closely and implement necessary precautionary measures to ensure public safety.

Northeast Monsoon Brings Light Rains to Luzon and Visayas

Simultaneously, the northeast monsoon, locally known as "amihan," will influence weather patterns across other parts of the country. This seasonal wind system is expected to cause light rains in Cagayan Valley, the rest of Visayas, the remaining areas of the Bicol Region, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.

Metro Manila and Luzon Under Isolated Light Rains

PAGASA further noted that Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience isolated light rains due to the amihan. While these showers are generally milder, they may still impact daily activities and transportation in the capital region and surrounding provinces.

Localized Thunderstorms Affect Mindanao

In Mindanao, aside from the shear line-affected areas, the rest of the region will see isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms. These sudden weather events can bring brief but intense rainfall, potentially disrupting local conditions.

Maritime Warnings for Eastern Sections

The weather bureau has also issued a maritime advisory, forecasting strong winds and rough seas in the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao. Fisherfolk and small sea craft are urged to exercise caution or avoid venturing into these waters due to potentially hazardous sailing conditions.

PAGASA continues to monitor the development of these weather systems and advises the public to stay updated through official channels for any changes in the forecast.
