TD Wilma Halts Classes in 22 Cebu Areas, Echoes of Tino Loom
TD Wilma Suspends Classes Across Cebu Towns and Cities

The entry of Tropical Depression Wilma into the Philippine area of responsibility has prompted local governments across Cebu to suspend in-person classes as a precautionary measure against potential heavy rains and flooding.

List of Affected Localities

On Thursday, December 4, 2025, officials announced a shift to Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) for schools in numerous towns and cities. The affected areas include Minglanilla, Talisay City, Moalboal, Dalaguete, Compostela, Cordova, Santa Fe, Bantayan Island, City of Naga, Argao, Carcar City, Poro, Pinamungajan, Borbon, Sogod, Barili, Bantayan, Tabogon, Ronda, Dumanjug, Alcoy, and again Moalboal.

Meanwhile, Lapu-Lapu City has taken a more extended precaution, suspending face-to-face classes from December 5 until December 6 due to Wilma's anticipated effects.

Provincial Government on High Alert

The Cebu Provincial Government has issued a clear advisory stating that the list of areas suspending classes may still expand. This move is part of proactive steps to mitigate risks for students and residents. Authorities have directed communities to prepare and take necessary actions to avoid danger.

The primary goal is to prevent any disaster that could lead to loss of life among residents, a directive underscored by recent tragic history.

Shadow of Typhoon Tino

The urgency of these preparations is magnified by the recent memory of Typhoon Tino, which struck Cebu just one month ago. That severe weather event resulted in a devastating toll, claiming over 100 lives and leaving more than 40 individuals still missing.

The provincial government's decisive action for TD Wilma reflects lessons learned, emphasizing early preparedness to safeguard communities from the recurring threat of tropical cyclones in the region.
