Japan Foundation Launches 2026 Exchange Program for Davao Region Educators
The Japan Foundation has unveiled an exceptional opportunity for high school Social Studies teachers based in the Davao Region. Through its FY2026 ASEAN–Japan Exchange Program for Secondary School Educators, selected participants will embark on a transformative journey to Japan. This initiative aims to foster cross-cultural understanding and enhance educational practices through direct immersion.
Program Details and Selection Process
During a recent meeting, Consul General of Japan to Davao, Ono Hirotaka, alongside Ben Suzuki, Head of the Japan Foundation Manila, presented the program specifics to Regional Director Allan G. Farnazo. They confirmed that ten teachers and three school heads will be chosen through a rigorous screening process based on established criteria.
Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to continuing their teaching careers and delivering lectures about Japan in their respective schools. They are expected to utilize the knowledge and experiences gained from this exchange to enrich their classrooms. Preference in the selection will be given to individuals of Nikkei-jin descent and to those who show genuine enthusiasm for promoting a deeper appreciation of Japanese culture.
Immersive Experience in Japan
The selected educators are scheduled to travel to Japan for a week-long visit in June 2026. This immersive experience will allow them to:
- Explore Japan's educational system in depth, gaining insights into its methodologies and practices.
- Experience Japanese culture firsthand through various activities and interactions.
- Engage with professionals in the education sector, building valuable networks and exchanging ideas.
This program not only offers personal and professional growth but also aims to strengthen the educational ties between the Philippines and Japan. By participating, teachers will bring back innovative approaches and cultural knowledge to benefit their students and communities in the Davao Region.
