Bitget, Ascent Project Aid Cebu Quake Victims

In a swift response to a major natural disaster, cryptocurrency exchange Bitget and its philanthropic arm, The Ascent Project, have provided crucial aid to communities in northern Cebu. The organizations distributed relief goods worth P100,000 to residents affected by the powerful 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck the region.

Targeted Aid Reaches Hardest-Hit Areas

The relief operation, carried out on November 2, 2025, directly assisted 118 residents across the municipalities of Bogo City and San Remigio. These areas were among the most severely impacted by the strong tremors. The aid packages consisted of essential food supplies and hygiene kits, addressing immediate needs in the aftermath of the quake.

The distribution was facilitated with the help of Bitget's local community, which has long been active as a grassroots group in the Visayas region. This local network was instrumental in ensuring the aid reached those who needed it most, embodying the initiative's core goal of connecting with and providing practical help to vulnerable communities during crises.

A Message of Solidarity and Continued Trust

In a statement, Bitget CEO Gracy Chen expressed empathy for the victims and highlighted the importance of collective action. She recognized the inherent spirit of cooperation among Filipinos, known as 'bayanihan,' as a driving force for recovery.

"My heart goes out to people that have been struggling during this difficult time… we hope to support and continue building trust," Chen stated. She emphasized that unity is especially vital when facing calamities, and that mutual aid is a precious characteristic that propels communities to rise after a disaster.

Beyond Relief: Assessing Long-Term Recovery Needs

The provision of emergency goods is just the first step. Bitget and The Ascent Project have indicated that their work is ongoing. Teams are continuing to assess what further assistance they can offer to support the long-term rehabilitation of the affected areas.

This relief project in Cebu is part of the organizations' broader global initiatives, which include a notable partnership with UNICEF focused on digital and blockchain education. It reflects a commitment to social responsibility that extends beyond the tech and finance sectors.

As rehabilitation efforts in Northern Cebu persist, Bitget and The Ascent Project remain hopeful that their contribution, while modest, will play a part in helping these resilient communities recover and rebuild more swiftly.
