78 aspiring OFWs rescued from illegal accommodation in Makati

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) shut down an illegal accommodation facility in Palanan, Makati City on Thursday, June 18, 2026, rescuing 78 overseas Filipino worker applicants.

Rescue Operation Details

The DMW reported that the applicants were recruited by Jenerick International Manpower Inc. and promised jobs as domestic workers in various Asian and Middle Eastern countries. However, the accommodation facility was unregistered and lacked the necessary clearance permit from the department.

Verification also revealed that the facility was unsuitable for residence due to insufficient space, poor ventilation, and unsafe conditions for the applicants.

Government Action

The DMW-National Capital Region and the Migrant Workers Protection Division implemented Closure Order No. 2, with assistance from the local government to ensure an orderly rescue operation.

Following the rescue, the DMW coordinated with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to provide immediate assistance, including financial aid and temporary accommodation.

Broader Anti-Illegal Recruitment Efforts

The closure operation is part of broader government efforts under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to intensify protection measures against illegal recruitment and human trafficking targeting Filipinos seeking overseas employment.

The DMW reiterated its warning for job seekers to carefully verify recruitment agencies, job orders, and employment offers before making payments or committing to overseas work.

The public is urged to report any suspicious recruitment activity to the DMW or authorities to protect fellow citizens, especially OFWs and aspiring OFWs, from illegal recruitment and human trafficking.
