Coalition Calls for National Unity in Celebrating Arbitral Victory
The Atin Ito Coalition has urged the public to participate in the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Philippines' victory at the Arbitral Tribunal in 2016. Rafaela David, convenor of the coalition, emphasized the importance of remembering and continuously honoring this national achievement.
UNCLOS Recognition of Philippine Rights
The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) recognized the Philippines' rights over the disputed territory in the West Philippine Sea. This landmark ruling affirmed the country's sovereign claims.
Fisherfolk Leader Calls for Active Participation
Roberto "Ka Dodoy" Ballon, a fisherfolk leader and co-convenor of the coalition, called on everyone to join activities that counter China's claims over Philippine territories. He urged vehicle owners to honk their horns and make noise on July 12 to show support and celebrate the victory achieved ten years ago.
Whole-of-Nation Approach Emphasized
Rafaela David stressed that defending the country's territory is not solely the responsibility of the government or specific groups but requires a whole-of-nation approach. This collective effort aims to convey to foreign nations that the West Philippine Sea belongs to the Philippines.
