US President Donald Trump announced that the United States has ended the war with Iran today, asserting that both sides have agreed to a "very strong memorandum of understanding" to permanently halt hostilities. Trump made the statement during a telerally supporting Georgia Lt. Governor Burt Jones, who is currently running for governor. According to the US president, Iran has formally agreed not to pursue nuclear weapons, a key condition he said he insisted upon and which was the main objective of the operation.
US Cancels Airstrikes
The announcement followed the cancellation of planned US airstrikes on Iran earlier Friday morning. The cancellation came after the White House indicated that the agreement was finalized, although the full terms have not yet been detailed.
Iran's Response
However, Iran's stance appears to contradict this. According to the country's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, no final decision has been made regarding any agreement, and the circulating news is still considered speculation.
