The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced a significant compliance achievement during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. On Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, authorities conducted random breathalyzer examinations on public utility bus drivers operating from Cebu's major transportation hubs.
Perfect Sobriety Record During Peak Travel
All 25 public utility bus drivers who underwent random testing at Cebu's major terminals passed their breathalyzer examinations with zero violations detected. The inspections took place during what is traditionally one of the busiest travel periods of the Lenten season, when thousands of passengers typically travel between cities and provinces for religious observances and family gatherings.
Terminal-Specific Testing Results
The comprehensive operation covered both of Cebu's primary bus terminals. At the Cebu North Bus Terminal located in Mandaue City, authorities tested 10 drivers, while at the Cebu South Bus Terminal in Cebu City, 15 drivers underwent examination. Remarkably, all drivers from both locations demonstrated complete compliance with alcohol consumption regulations.
Multi-Agency Enforcement Operation
The successful operation represented a coordinated effort between multiple government agencies. LTO Central Office law enforcement officers worked in close partnership with the Philippine Coast Guard Special Operations Task Group and LTO 7 enforcers under the leadership of Director Wendel Dinglasan. This collaborative approach ensured comprehensive coverage and enforcement during the critical holiday period.
Additional Vehicle Safety Inspections
Beyond the driver sobriety checks, authorities conducted thorough inspections of 56 bus units operating from the terminals. All vehicles examined were declared roadworthy and compliant with safety standards, further ensuring passenger security during the holiday travel rush. The combined focus on both driver fitness and vehicle condition represents a holistic approach to transportation safety.
The successful operation demonstrates significant compliance with transportation safety regulations during peak travel periods. With zero alcohol violations detected among tested drivers and all inspected vehicles meeting roadworthiness standards, the results provide reassurance to travelers during one of the Philippines' busiest annual travel seasons.
