Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Couple in Toledo City

A devastating road accident in Barangay Ibo, Toledo City has resulted in the immediate deaths of a married couple who were asleep inside their parked tricycle. The incident occurred around 12:00 midnight on February 2, 2026, when a dump truck collided with the stationary vehicle.

Victims and Immediate Aftermath

The couple has been identified as Jeffrey Olid and Maggie Olid. According to witnesses and police reports, they were sleeping in the tricycle at the time of the impact, with Jeffrey lying on the motorcycle part and Maggie in the sidecar. The driver of the dump truck, Revelito Paraiso, 55, from Barangay Cantabaco, Toledo City, was rushed to the hospital with a reported broken leg from being pinned in the crash.

Investigation Details and Sequence of Events

Police Master Sergeant Nicanor Goc-ong and Patrolman Bryan Binarao are leading the investigation. Initial findings suggest the accident involved a chain reaction. Justine Hantica, driving another dump truck from Pinamungahan toward Barangay Canlumampao, was reportedly speeding and attempting to overtake another vehicle. Upon noticing Paraiso's truck approaching, Hantica applied the brakes, but his truck obstructed the path.

Paraiso's truck then collided with the rear of Hantica's vehicle before veering off and crashing into a motorshop where the Olid couple's tricycle was parked. A mechanic at the shop, known as alias Romeo, explained that the Olids frequently parked there overnight because their home was in a remote mountainous area. They sometimes slept in the tricycle, especially during rainy weather, and also traveled at night to earn extra income.

Heartbreaking Family Impact

The tragedy has left the Olid family in deep grief. The couple had planned to return home on February 2 to celebrate their daughter's debut or birthday. The daughter recounted speaking with her parents the previous day to finalize plans for the occasion. Upon learning of their deaths, she expressed anguish, stating, "He must pay and be held accountable for what he did to my mama and papa. It is very difficult to accept." She and her siblings are now demanding justice for the sudden loss of their parents.

Current Status and Legal Proceedings

As of now, Revelito Paraiso remains hospitalized for treatment of his injuries. Justine Hantica is under custody at the Toledo Police Station as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this fatal collision. The community is mourning the loss of the Olid couple while awaiting further developments in the case.
