Delivery Rider Killed in Cebu City by Racing Motorcycles in Early Morning Crash
A tragic traffic accident in Cebu City has claimed the life of a delivery rider after he was struck by racing motorcycles in the early hours of Monday, March 23, 2026. The incident occurred at approximately 3:50 a.m. at the corner of Gorordo Avenue and Solon Drive in Barangay Lahug, leaving the victim dead on the spot.
Victim and Incident Details
The victim has been identified as Ivan Serintas Avila, a 35-year-old resident of Cebu City. According to the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Cebu City Police Office, closed circuit television footage from Barangay Lahug provided critical evidence of the events leading to the fatal crash.
The CCTV footage revealed that both Avila and the motorcycles were traveling toward the downtown area. As Avila approached the intersection and began to turn toward Solon Drive, a motorcycle following him, driven by 21-year-old Dendril Montehermoso with an 11-year-old back rider named Dember, counterflowed and collided directly with the victim.
Impact and Aftermath
The collision was severe, throwing all parties involved off their vehicles. Tragically, Avila sustained catastrophic head and body injuries from the impact and died instantly at the scene. In a further twist, reports indicate that the victims were subsequently run over by another motorcycle involved in the incident.
Montehermoso and the young passenger were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have subjected both individuals to mandatory alcohol and drug tests as part of the ongoing investigation into the crash.
Additional Suspect Surrenders
Later on Monday, around 1 p.m., another rider connected to the incident surrendered at the Barangay Hall of Sambag 2. This individual, identified only by the alias J, is a 16-year-old resident of Barangay Sambag 2. CCTV footage captured him briefly returning to the crash site before departing again.
Police have confirmed that alias J was operating without a valid driver's license at the time of the accident, adding another layer of negligence to the case.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
Montehermoso is currently under hospital arrest and will face serious legal consequences. He has been charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property, as authorities have determined he was at fault in the collision.
Meanwhile, alias J is undergoing a discernment process in accordance with the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006, which governs how minors are handled within the legal system. This process will assess his level of responsibility and determine appropriate actions.
