A 33-year-old French tourist was injured after the motorcycle he was riding became entangled in a low-hanging communication cable on a road in Alegria, Cebu. The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, along the Balhaan–Madridejos road in Alegria City.
Details of the Motorcycle Crash
According to Jerome Reazon, Officer I of the Alegria Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the tourist was traveling when his motorcycle suddenly snagged on a communication cable that was hanging low and not easily visible. The cable wrapped around his neck, causing him to lose balance and fall backward, separating him from the vehicle.
The preliminary investigation by the MDRRMO revealed that the tourist sustained abrasions on his neck and left knee as a result of the abrupt entanglement. Reazon disclosed this information during a telephone interview with SunStar Cebu, emphasizing the unexpected nature of the hazard on the road.
Emergency Response and Medical Care
Immediately following the accident, the French tourist was transported to Badian District Hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment.
