HPG 7 Seizes Suspected Stolen Motor Engines in Talisay City Raid
HPG 7 Seizes Stolen Motor Engines in Talisay City

The Highway Patrol Group 7 (HPG 7) has taken custody of several motor engines seized from a shop in Mananga II, Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City, following a raid conducted on Tuesday evening, February 24, 2026. This operation marks a significant step in the agency's ongoing efforts to combat the illegal trade of stolen vehicle parts in the Central Visayas region.

Forensic Examination to Determine Ownership

According to Lt. Col. Wildemar Tiu, the chief of HPG 7, the 12 confiscated engines will undergo forensic examination using macro etching techniques. This process aims to identify the rightful owners and verify whether the engines were stolen. The results will be cross-referenced with records from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and HPG databases to ensure accuracy and facilitate legal proceedings.

Crackdown on Surplus Parts Dealers

Lt. Col. Tiu emphasized that HPG 7 is intensifying inspections of surplus vehicle parts dealers, particularly those selling motorcycle components. This initiative is designed to prevent the sale of stolen goods and disrupt criminal networks involved in vehicle theft. The agency is targeting individuals who knowingly purchase stolen parts, as they could face charges under the Anti-Fencing Law.

Public Advisory on Legitimate Purchases

HPG 7 has issued a strong advisory to vehicle and motorcycle owners, urging them to purchase parts only from legitimate and authorized shops. Buying from unverified sources not only supports illegal activities but also exposes consumers to legal risks. Lt. Col. Tiu warned that motorists found using stolen parts may be prosecuted, highlighting the importance of due diligence in sourcing components.

He further noted that many buyers in Central Visayas still opt for stolen parts due to lower prices, making them a primary target for enforcement actions. The agency remains committed to eradicating this illicit trade through continuous raids and public awareness campaigns.
