A tragic road accident in Naga City, Cebu, has resulted in the death of a 34-year-old man after he jumped from a moving public utility vehicle.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The victim has been identified as Junifer Traya Redondo, 34, a resident of Purok 9, Barangay San Isidro in San Fernando City. The incident occurred around 8:00 PM on Saturday, January 17, 2026, along Barangay Colon in Naga City.
According to the investigation by the Naga City Police Station, Redondo boarded an EDC Minibus with plate number NBA 5532 in San Fernando. The driver was Alger Secretaria, 44, from Bolinawan, Carcar City. Upon reaching his destination in Colon, the victim signaled the driver to stop.
A Fatal Leap and Immediate Aftermath
As the minibus was pulling over to the roadside, Redondo suddenly jumped from the vehicle while it was still in motion. He lost his balance, fell, and was tragically run over by the rear wheels of the bus.
Responders rushed the severely injured man to the South General Hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival at 8:57 PM by attending physician Dr. Ian Clint Nallano. The medical assessment cited massive physical and head injuries as the cause of death.
Legal Consequences and Ongoing Probe
Following the event, driver Alger Secretaria was taken into custody at the Naga City Police Station. Authorities subjected him to mandatory medical and physical examinations, including tests for alcohol and drugs.
The police have already prepared a criminal complaint for Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide against the minibus driver as their investigation into the precise circumstances continues.
