A 26-year-old man lost his life in a tragic solo motorcycle accident along the South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City on Saturday, January 3, 2026. The incident occurred near the Nustar complex in Barangay Mambaling.
Victim and Incident Details
The fatality was identified as Vince Tyrone Pongase Alda, a resident of Zone 5, Sitio Camalig, Barangay Dumlog in Talisay City. Alda was riding his Yamaha Mio I motorcycle with plate number 397 GQG.
Initial investigation led by Pat. Djansen Van Pinili revealed that the victim was traveling southbound at around 12:20 PM. Reports indicate the motorcycle was moving at high speed when it suddenly swerved towards a roadside drainage canal. This caused the driver to lose control, leading the vehicle to collide with a tree.
Severe Impact and Immediate Aftermath
The force of the impact was catastrophic. Alda was thrown an estimated 30 meters away from the tree. His motorcycle was found even farther, recovered approximately 35 meters from where he landed.
Personnel from both the Naga City Ambulance and Talisay City Ambulance who responded to the scene pronounced the victim dead on the spot. No other vehicles were involved in the collision.
Ongoing Investigation and Charges
As of now, the Cebu City Police have classified the case under "Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide and Damage to Property." The investigation continues to piece together the exact circumstances that led to the fatal swerve and loss of control on that section of the SRP highway.
This incident serves as a somber reminder for motorists, especially those using high-speed thoroughfares like the SRP, to prioritize safety and exercise caution at all times.
