Cebu's Transcentral Highway Sees Unusual Calm After Police Deployment

The popular "Red Cliff" area along the Transcentral Highway in Cebu was notably quiet on Saturday, February 21, 2026, following a targeted police operation to curb reckless motorcycle stunts. Authorities from multiple units, including the Highway Patrol Group 7, the Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit, and the City Mobile Force Company of the Cebu City Police Office, were deployed to deter dangerous exhibition driving.

Police Action Leads to Immediate Impact

Police Lieutenant Colonel Wildemar Tiu, the HPG-7 regional chief, stated that the deployment aimed to prevent riders from performing risky stunts that endanger other motorists. "We observed the Transcentral Highway became unusually quiet upon our arrival," Tiu noted, suspecting that news of the police presence spread rapidly through riders' group chats.

Despite the overall calm, authorities still managed to apprehend violators during the operation. They impounded four vehicles and five motorcycles due to a lack of proper documentation, such as vehicle registration.

Background: A Viral Incident Sparks Response

This crackdown was prompted by a viral incident that occurred on Sunday, February 15, 2026. A rider performing a "Superman" stunt collided with another rider due to reckless behavior, highlighting the dangers of such activities. In response, Tiu's office has filed an Alarm and Scandal charge against the rider, identified as Kylle Econas of Consolacion, Cebu.

The operation underscores ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and enforce traffic laws in high-risk areas like the Transcentral Highway.
