Seven Orphaned Siblings Mourn Parents Killed in Mandaue Truck Accident

A devastating incident in Barangay Tingub, Mandaue City, has left seven siblings orphaned after their parents were among multiple fatalities in a horrific traffic accident involving a trailer truck on Saturday night. The tragedy unfolded when the truck, reportedly experiencing brake failure, reversed into victims, resulting in a chain of deaths and injuries that has shocked the community.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The accident occurred on April 11, 2026, along B. Suico Street in Barangay Tingub. According to initial reports, the trailer truck, driven by 36-year-old Teodie Ycot from Purok 1, Barangay Consolacion, Dalaguete City, lost its brakes after Ycot attempted to avoid a dump truck. In a desperate maneuver, he reversed, but the malfunction led to the truck striking several individuals, including motorcyclists.

Among the victims were Adeline Mediana, 34, and her live-in partner Marvin Ocampo Dayuha, 38, who were riding a motorcycle at the time. Mediana was declared dead on arrival at Eversley Childs Sanitarium and General Hospital in Jagobiao, along with another backrider, Marilyn Cuambot, 37, from Sityo Sunflower, Barangay Canduman. Dayuha, critically injured, was rushed to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) but succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning, April 12, 2026.

Aftermath and Legal Consequences

The couple's seven children are now left without parents, with their bodies laid out at their home in Sityo Tondo, Barangay Tingub as the family appeals for assistance. Meanwhile, the driver of the motorcycle carrying Cuambot remains hospitalized. In response to the incident, Ycot has expressed remorse, stating he did not intend for the accident to happen and tried to stop the truck to prevent further harm. The trucking company has pledged to cover damages.

However, Ycot faces serious legal repercussions. He is set to be charged with Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Multiple Homicide and Damage to Property, highlighting the grave consequences of the brake failure. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the mechanical issue, with community members calling for stricter vehicle safety checks to prevent similar tragedies.

This heartbreaking event underscores the urgent need for improved road safety measures in urban areas, as families grapple with the sudden loss of loved ones and children face an uncertain future without their caregivers.
