A morning commute turned dangerous on the South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu, resulting in three people being injured after two motorcycles were involved in an accident. The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 AM on December 4, 2025.
Sequence of Events on the SRP
According to statements from one of the drivers, the chain of events began with a van traveling ahead. The driver, identified as Alyas Anthony, 27, reported that a hose used for draining water from the van's air conditioning system suddenly fell onto the road. The loose hose then became entangled in the front wheel of Anthony's motorcycle.
This caused him to lose control of the vehicle, leading to a slide and fall on the highway. The van reportedly continued driving, leaving the scene without stopping, seemingly unaware of the incident it had caused.
Collision and Injuries
The initial crash had immediate consequences for another rider. Due to the sudden fall, a second motorcycle that was following closely behind could not avoid the collision. This motorcycle was driven by Alyas Teresita, 42.
The injured parties included:
- Alyas Anthony, the 27-year-old driver of the first motorcycle.
- His 51-year-old mother, who was riding as his passenger (pillion).
- Alyas Teresita, the 42-year-old driver of the second motorcycle.
Anthony and his mother were on their way from Talisay City to his workplace at a major mall in Cebu City at the time of the accident. Teresita was also headed to her duty but was unable to proceed following the crash.
Aftermath and Road Safety Concerns
All three individuals suffered injuries from the slide and collision, described as being thrown and scraping against the road surface. The incident highlights critical road safety issues, particularly concerning vehicle maintenance and the secure fastening of parts.
The failure of the van driver to stop and assist after a component from their vehicle caused an accident raises serious questions about driver responsibility. Authorities are likely investigating to identify the van involved.
This accident on a major Cebu thoroughfare serves as a stark reminder for all motorists to ensure their vehicles are in proper working condition before heading onto busy roads like the SRP, where high speeds can turn a small detached part into a major hazard.
