Tragic Night Claims Young Life in Cebu City
An 18-year-old motorcyclist lost his life in a devastating road accident that occurred on Monday night, November 10, 2025, along Natalio Bacalso Avenue in Barangay Bulacao, Cebu City.
The victim has been identified as Corey Quijano, an 18-year-old resident of Quijano Compound in Barangay Calamba, Cebu City. The tragic incident unfolded at approximately 11:35 PM when Quijano's motorcycle collided with a Suzuki van, leading to fatal consequences.
Dashcam Footage Reveals Critical Details
According to the investigation conducted by the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), dashcam footage from the Suzuki van provided crucial evidence about the sequence of events. The recording shows that Quijano was traveling at high speed along the inner lane while heading toward Talisay City.
The Suzuki van, driven by a man identified only as Mark from Barangay Quiot, was also traveling in the inner lane but in the opposite direction toward Cebu City. The collision occurred near a large hardware store in Bulacao, where the investigation reveals Quijano attempted to overtake another vehicle.
Violation of Traffic Rules Proves Fatal
The young rider made the fateful decision to overtake on the left side of the road, despite the presence of a double solid yellow line that clearly prohibited such maneuvers. During this illegal passing attempt, Quijano's motorcycle struck a traffic signage, triggering the catastrophic chain of events.
The impact of the collision was so severe that it threw Quijano from his motorcycle, propelling him across the road into the opposite lane where he was struck by the oncoming Suzuki van. Emergency responders quickly transported the critically injured victim to Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC), but medical personnel declared him dead on arrival.
This tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and exercising caution on Cebu City's roads, particularly for young motorcycle riders. The Cebu City Police Office continues its investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding this fatal collision.
