The wing van, which was descending the road, lost its brakes, causing the driver to lose control. It then collided head-on with a motorcycle that was ascending the highway. The impact was severe, with the motorcycle and its riders being dragged several meters before crashing onto the roadside.
Victims Identified in the Tragedy
The three motorcycle riders were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as Jose Gacayan, 26, the driver from Barangay Malubog, Cebu City, and his two passengers: Ereneya Lopez, 60, and Felix Vasquez, 50, both residents of Sityo Tugob, Barangay Babag 2, Cebu City. Vasquez suffered the most severe injuries, with reports indicating his body was severed in the crash.
The wing van driver, Roger Suyman, 49, from Tandag, Surigao del Sur, was trapped in the vehicle and declared dead on arrival at Vicento Sotto Memorial Medical Center. His crew member, Gener Bacnis, 53, from Pateros, Metro Manila, was transported to Cebu City Medical Center, where he is currently receiving ongoing medical treatment.
