Details of the Fatal Crash

The victim has been identified as Carlos Navarro Jr., a resident of Sityo Ipil-Ipil in Barangay Dumlog. According to investigations by the Toledo City Police Station, the truck, with plate number JAU 8931, was driven by Christian Moncada Maglasang, 37, from Barangay Tubigagmanok in Asturias town. The vehicle was transporting day-old chicks from Boljoon town to Barangay Dumlog when the driver swerved to avoid a tricycle that stopped abruptly in front of him.

Maglasang reported that he tried to apply the brakes, but they failed to engage properly. In an effort to avoid a collision, he steered the truck to the right, but it instead veered into a bakery where Navarro was buying bread. The truck also struck a store and two parked motorcycles and tricycles along the national highway before overturning.

Aftermath and Legal Actions

Witnesses at the scene described the Isuzu Forward as traveling at high speed and narrowly missing the tricycle before the crash. Navarro was rushed to the Toledo City hospital but was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors. The Toledo City Police Station has taken the truck driver into custody and is preparing charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide and Damage to Properties against him.
