In an era obsessed with instant results, the Tour de Cebu 2025 celebrated a different kind of victory—one built on timing, patience, and precision. The historic sports car rally, which unfolded over three days from December 18-20, 2025, covered a challenging 1,000-kilometer route across the scenic landscapes of Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental. It proved that there remains a vibrant appetite for events that prioritize skill and consistency over sheer speed.
Grand Champions Emerge After Tight Competition
The rally culminated in a thrillingly close finish, with the top spot decided by mere points. Driving a classic 1972 Porsche 914, the team of Frank Vicoy and Nico Ornopia claimed the overall Grand Champion title. Their victory was sealed by a dominant performance in the final leg of the event. In recognition of their consistent excellence throughout the rally, they were also awarded the prestigious Performance and Classics Enthusiasts (PACE) Chairman Class Award.
Hot on their heels, Anthony Ramos and Lance Ledesma secured first runner-up honors in their 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL. The second runner-up position went to Julian “Coco” Garcia and Iñaki Araneta, who impressed judges with their steady and precise driving in a Porsche 911 SC.
A Rally of Diverse Stories and Categories
The beauty of the Tour de Cebu lies in its ability to host a multitude of narratives alongside the fierce competition for the overall crown. The event saw participation from across the Philippines, including teams from Cebu, Negros, Cagayan, Manila, and Davao, as well as international entrants from Japan, South Africa, and Europe.
First-time participants Ramon and Charina Garcia, a husband-and-wife team, demonstrated that preparation and partnership can triumph over experience. They drove their Porsche 911 to a first-place finish in the Modern Classics category.
Class victories highlighted the rally's broad appeal:
- Roberto Aboitiz Class: Won by JB Mapa and Robertino Garcia in a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette C2.
- Sportsman Class: Claimed by Julian “Coco” Garcia and Iñaki Araneta.
- Clubman Class: Secured by Thomas and Emmanuel Zayco in a 1974 Toyota Celica.
Celebrating Character on the Open Road
Beyond the stopwatch, the Tour de Cebu took time to honor the spirit of the event. A series of special awards recognized essential qualities like sportsmanship and perseverance. These included the Gentleman Racer Award, Family Team Award, Survivor Award, and the Quintessential Car Award.
Stage wins shifted among various teams throughout the three-day journey, underscoring the dynamic nature of a long-distance rally where momentum can change with every turn. In a fast-paced world that often encourages shortcuts, the Tour de Cebu stands as a testament to the enduring value of slowing down, staying on pace, and truly trusting the road.
