Victims Identified in Fatal Crash
The victims have been identified as Francisco Manaytay, a 19-year-old resident of Barangay Valladolid in Carcar City, and Elmer Lacida Canoy, a 41-year-old from Barangay Tonggo in San Fernando City. According to investigations conducted by the San Fernando Municipal Police Station, the two riders were traveling in opposite directions along the highway at the time of the crash.
Investigation Reveals Cause of Collision
Based on CCTV footage and police reports, it was determined that Manaytay was heading north toward Cebu City, while Canoy was traveling south. The impact of the crash was severe, causing both riders to be thrown from their vehicles and land forcefully on the cemented roadway.
Emergency Response and Hospital Declaration
Emergency responders quickly transported the victims to Cebu Provincial Hospital in Carcar City for medical attention. Despite efforts to save them, both individuals were pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Mikhael Jeff Tinio Yamit. The swift response was unable to overcome the critical injuries sustained in the high-speed collision.
Police Statement on Legal Implications
Police Major Michael Gingoyon, chief of the San Fernando Police Station, provided a statement regarding the legal aftermath of the incident. He noted that because both parties involved in the accident have died, no charges can be filed related to the crash. This conclusion underscores the tragic finality of the event, leaving no room for legal recourse in the matter.
