A tragic road accident claimed the life of a woman on the Davao City Coastal Road on Tuesday evening, December 30, 2025. The victim died after being thrown from a motorcycle and run over by a passenger bus.
Sequence of a Fatal Collision
The incident occurred at approximately 8:08 p.m. along the coastal thoroughfare. A Yamaha motorcycle, driven by its owner Recardo L. Marcellones, 37, was traveling from Punta Dumalag toward Talomo Cemento. His wife, Julie Sarah, was riding as his passenger.
Initial investigation by the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) revealed that the motorcycle's right handlebar grazed a white van. The van driver, apparently unaware or ignoring the contact, fled the scene. The impact caused the motorcycle to lose balance, swerving dangerously into the opposite lane.
Fatal Consequences and Emergency Response
The sudden swerve ejected Julie Sarah from the motorcycle. Tragically, she was then run over by the front wheel of an oncoming Yutong bus. The bus was driven by Nonato T. Berjami, a resident of Agdao, Davao City.
Responders from the Barangay Talomo Emergency Rescue Team rushed to the scene. They found the victim with severe injuries, primarily to her head. Dr. Jovan Keith Dumlao Enriquez assessed the victim and declared her dead at the scene, noting she was found without a pulse.
Ongoing Police Investigation
Authorities have taken the Yutong bus and its driver into custody as part of the standard procedure. The DCPO's investigation is now intensely focused on identifying and locating the driver of the white van involved in the initial collision. This driver's failure to stop may be a critical factor in the case.
This fatal accident underscores the persistent dangers on major roads and the catastrophic chain of events that can result from a minor collision and a driver's decision to flee.
