The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the Philippines has officially confirmed receiving reports concerning a voluntary recall of specific batches of Nan Optipro and Nankid Optipro infant milk formula products. The regulatory body is now investigating these reports to prevent a further increase in related cases.

Details of the Reported Cases and Symptoms

Out of the 25 reports received by the FDA, a concerning 18 cases involved observed adverse effects in children and infants after consuming the mentioned products. The health agency noted that the affected children exhibited symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and other conditions that necessitated medical attention.

The FDA emphasized that all submitted reports are under thorough study to determine the appropriate regulatory actions. The agency is also coordinating with relevant offices and agencies to ensure proper verification and resolution of the issues surrounding the recalled infant formula.

Ongoing Coordination and Public Advisory

In its statement, the FDA disclosed that it maintains close regulatory coordination with the market authorization holder, Nestlé Philippines, Inc.. The company has been directed to submit its report on the implementation, assessment, and updates regarding the voluntary recall of the affected products.

The agency issued a strong public advisory, urging parents and caregivers to immediately check the condition of their children who have consumed the listed products. They are advised to seek medical consultation if any symptoms are observed and to report incidents directly to the FDA via email at ereport@fda.gov.ph.
