Wife Reports Husband for Drug Use in Malabuyoc, Citing Unbearable Habit

In a dramatic turn of events, a wife in Malabuyoc City took decisive action against her husband's drug addiction by reporting him to authorities. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Sityo Sugka, Barangay Montañeza, where the husband was allegedly caught using shabu.

Arrest and Charges

Roy Nayre Sabando, a 38-year-old virtual assistant, was apprehended and is currently detained at the Malabuyoc Police Station. He faces charges under Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The arrest was initiated by his wife, Laila, who sought police assistance after reaching her breaking point with his persistent drug use.

Wife's Frustration and Discovery

According to Police Captain Lyno Tryss Galvan III, chief of the Malabuyoc Police Station, the wife could no longer endure her husband's addiction to shabu. She discovered him using the drug inside their home, initially thinking he was asleep due to the quiet surroundings. However, her eyes widened when she saw him heavily inhaling shabu. Despite her attempts to reprimand him, he refused to listen, leading to her decision to involve law enforcement.

Captain Galvan stated, "The wife was completely fed up because the addiction had become severe. She had pleaded with her husband multiple times to stop the vice, but he ignored her, prompting her to have him arrested." This highlights the emotional toll and desperation that drove her to take such a step.

Suspect's Admission and Evidence

The suspect admitted to using drugs as a means to condition himself during work hours. He has been involved in this vice for some time, with periods of cessation but relapses due to work-related fatigue. Police seized drug paraphernalia and two packets of shabu from him during the arrest, providing concrete evidence for the case.

Positive Development in Anti-Drug Campaign

Captain Galvan expressed gratitude for the wife's actions, noting that it represents a positive development in their campaign against illegal drugs. He emphasized that having family members report their own relatives is a significant step forward in combating drug abuse within communities. This incident underscores the importance of community involvement in addressing such issues.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of drug addiction on families and the critical role that loved ones can play in seeking help and enforcement. Authorities continue to encourage public cooperation in their efforts to eradicate illegal drug activities.
