The annual Feast of the Black Nazarene in Manila has reached a monumental new peak. The grand Traslacion 2026 procession concluded near midday on Saturday, January 10, officially entering the history books as both the longest and most attended event in its storied tradition.
Unprecedented Duration and Scale
According to the official report from Quiapo Church, this year's journey of the Jesus Nazareno statue lasted for a staggering 30 hours and 50 minutes. The procession commenced at the Quirino Grandstand at 4 a.m. on January 9 and finally reached its destination at the Quiapo Church at 10:50 a.m. the following day.
"So far, this is the longest Traslacion we have had," confirmed Fr. Robert Arellano, the Nazareno 2026 spokesperson, during a press briefing. The previous year's event, for comparison, lasted 20 hours and 45 minutes, making the 2026 procession over 10 hours longer.
A Sea of Faith: Record-Breaking Devotee Turnout
The primary driver behind the extended duration was an overwhelming surge in participant numbers. Church officials reported that a total of 9,640,290 devotees took part in the various activities for Nazareno 2026, starting from the Novena Masses on December 31.
"So far, this is the biggest number of devotees who participated in our activities for Nazareno 2026," stated Fr. Arellano. This figure shatters the 2025 record, which saw approximately 8.4 million participants. The priest directly linked the massive crowd to the procession's length, noting, "The high number of devotees who participated posed challenges and resulted in the longest-running procession we have had."
