The Institute for Studies in Asian Church and Culture has publicly declared its full support for the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte in the House of Representatives. The group expressed strong opposition to efforts aimed at derailing the process through technicalities.
Call for Transparency
The Institute urged the Vice President to appear before the House hearings and directly address the charges against her. It emphasized that the proceedings align with the Supreme Court ruling of July 25, 2025, which mandated that she be given a reasonable opportunity to respond before the case is transmitted to the Senate.
The charges against Duterte are described as too serious to be overlooked. These include the alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds, with P125 million spent in a single day; discrepancies in her statements of assets, liabilities, and net worth indicating unexplained wealth; and public death threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Public Support for Impeachment
The Institute cited a Tugon ng Masa survey by Octa Research, which found that 69 percent of Filipinos support an impeachment trial against the Vice President. This indicates a widespread desire for accountability, regardless of political affiliation.
The group called on the Vice President to honor her oath of accountability by participating in the House investigations. It also urged both the House and Senate to fulfill their constitutional duties and ensure justice under the law.
Finally, the Institute appealed to all citizens to remain vigilant and ensure that truth and justice prevail without fear or favor, invoking Leviticus 19:15: 'Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly.'
