Rep. Gerville Luistro of Batangas 2nd District highlighted the "empty chair" as a symbol of Vice President Sara Duterte's absence from her impeachment proceedings, which are now progressing beyond the committee level. During the latest hearing of the House Committee on Justice, Luistro noted that despite evidence and discussions, the Vice President has provided no direct answers or explanations. According to Luistro, the committee has long awaited Duterte's personal appearance under oath, but received no response. The lawmaker added that the committee has reached a point where sufficient evidence exists to proceed, making further hearings unnecessary. On April 29, the committee declared probable cause, paving the way for the preparation of impeachment articles for plenary discussion.
