The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) has announced its plan to file a petition before the Supreme Court to question the recent vote that changed the Senate leadership. In an official statement, National Deputy Spokesperson Atty. Ferdinand Topacio revealed the party's intention to bring the case to the High Court.
No Specific Date Yet
Although no specific date has been set, Topacio said the group will strive to file the petition with the Supreme Court as soon as possible. The party aims to uphold and defend the Constitution against the senators who participated in the vote held yesterday.
Questioning the Vote's Validity
The PDP believes that the reasoning that 12 senators are sufficient to vote and change the leadership is incorrect. The party insists that the law requires 13 senators to legally elect and replace the Senate leadership.
According to the PDP, even if some senators are absent, ill, detained, or abroad, the required number for a valid vote remains 13. The party maintains that the recent vote, which involved only 12 senators, is not in accordance with the law and the Constitution.
The petition seeks to clarify the proper procedure for Senate leadership elections and to ensure that all future votes adhere to the legal requirements. The PDP vows to pursue this legal action to protect the integrity of the legislative process.
