Senate Has P26 Million for VP Sara Impeachment Trial

Senator Panfilo 'Ping' Lacson announced that the Senate has sufficient funds to cover a potential impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. Lacson, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Accounts, stated that approximately P26 million can be utilized from the P27 million allocated under the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

Continuing Appropriations Allow Two-Year Use

According to Lacson, the funds are classified as 'continuing appropriations,' meaning they remain available for use for up to two years. He also shared that the Senate has already spent around P500,000 upon initially receiving the Articles of Impeachment against Sara Duterte last year.

Senate Ready for Possible Submission

The Senate President Pro Tempore emphasized that the Senate is prepared should the House of Representatives resubmit the impeachment case. He assured that senators would handle the case based solely on evidence. Lacson also reminded his fellow senators, who may serve as senator-judges, to uphold proper conduct and due process if the impeachment trial proceeds.
