Senator Zubiri Apologizes to Family of Inday Badiday for Slip of Tongue
Zubiri Apologizes to Inday Badiday's Family

Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri has apologized to the family of the late television host and veteran entertainment journalist Lourdes Carvajal, popularly known as “Inday Badiday,” after he inadvertently mentioned her name during a heated Senate debate on Monday.

Apology via Facebook

In a Facebook post, Zubiri admitted that his statement was a “slip of the tongue” while he was objecting to a video presentation by Senator Imee Marcos concerning alleged Charter change (Cha-cha) and term extension in the government. The senator emphasized his deep respect for Carvajal, who was known for her showbiz talk shows “See True” and “Eye to Eye” in the 1980s and 1990s. According to Zubiri, Inday Badiday was part of Philippine popular culture and was beloved by many Filipinos for her unique charm, wit, and warmth.

Context of the Incident

The issue arose after Zubiri opposed a video shown by Marcos in the Senate plenary session, which allegedly contained claims that the administration was pushing for Charter change and term extension. Zubiri called the video “horrible propaganda” and requested its removal from the Senate record, a move supported by some minority bloc senators but opposed by Senator Rodante Marcoleta. During his manifestation, Zubiri mentioned Inday Badiday while criticizing the type of discourse taking place in the Senate. “Are we now Inday Badiday here in the Senate?” Zubiri said, followed by his apology to those watching the session.

He reiterated his admiration for Carvajal’s contributions to Philippine media and entertainment, stressing that his remarks were not meant to tarnish her legacy. The incident highlights the intense debates surrounding the proposed Charter changes and the sensitive nature of political discourse in the Senate.
