Colonel Daskeo Assumes Lapu-Lapu City Police Director Role Amid ASEAN Forum
New Lapu-Lapu Police Chief Takes Charge for ASEAN Forum

Lapu-Lapu City has formally introduced its new police chief as Colonel Agosto Daskeo officially assumed the position of City Director for the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) on Monday, January 26, 2026. This appointment marks a significant leadership transition, with Daskeo taking over from the previous officer-in-charge, Police Colonel Antonietto Cañete, who had been overseeing operations temporarily.

A Critical Transition During High-Profile Events

The timing of this leadership change is particularly crucial for the city, which is currently preparing to host the prestigious Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Tourism Forum. The event is scheduled to run from Tuesday, January 27, through February 4, 2026, bringing an influx of international delegates and visitors to Lapu-Lapu City.

Immediately following his appointment, Colonel Daskeo engaged in a courtesy call and strategic meeting with Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ma. Cynthia "Cindi" Chan. Their discussion centered on urgent security plans and coordination efforts to ensure the safety and smooth operation of the ASEAN forum. Mayor Chan emphasized that with the city under international scrutiny, there is absolutely no margin for error when it comes to protecting residents and guests alike.

Daskeo's Proven Track Record in the Region

Colonel Daskeo brings extensive experience and familiarity with the local law enforcement landscape to his new role. Prior to this permanent appointment as City Director, he held several key positions that have prepared him for this responsibility:

  • Serving as the Acting Chief of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division at the Police Regional Office 7 (PRO-7).
  • Taking on the role of Officer-in-Charge for the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office for a brief period in late 2025, specifically from October 19 to November 14.

This background means Daskeo is not starting from scratch but rather building upon existing relationships and operational knowledge. His previous leadership stint with the LCPO positions him to implement security measures efficiently as the city enters a period of heightened activity and visibility.

Unified Focus on Safety and Civic Reputation

During their meeting, Mayor Chan clearly articulated that the city's reputation as a safe and welcoming destination hinges on the successful execution of the upcoming ASEAN events. The primary objective is to guarantee that all forum activities proceed in a smooth, orderly, and secure manner for both international visitors and local residents.

"The safety of the people and the reputation of the city remain [my] top priorities," Mayor Chan stated, underscoring the collaborative mission between city officials and the police force. She highlighted that this partnership is essential for maintaining Lapu-Lapu City's status as the "Historic Resort City" during one of its most significant weeks of the year.

With the ASEAN Tourism Forum now underway, the new police director and city administration are intensifying their coordination efforts. They are focused on deploying comprehensive security strategies, enhancing police visibility, and ensuring rapid response capabilities to safeguard the community and uphold the city's esteemed image on the international stage.
