PNP Mobilizes Massive Force for Summer Travel Security

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has announced a comprehensive security deployment for the upcoming summer season, with nearly 55,000 personnel set to be stationed across the nation. This initiative, part of Oplan Ligtas Sumvac 2026, aims to protect travelers during the Holy Week and summer vacation period from March 29 to May 31.

Strategic Deployment Details

At a press briefing held in Camp Crame on Monday, March 16, 2026, Col. Anna Liza Macapinlac, chief of the PNP-Public Safety Division of the Directorate for Operations, revealed the breakdown of the deployment. A total of 54,989 personnel will be mobilized, including:

  • 36,163 regular PNP officers
  • 4,738 personnel from augmented units
  • 14,088 members from auxiliary groups and force multipliers

Col. Macapinlac emphasized that the primary goal is to ensure maximum police visibility in key locations to deter criminal activities and provide swift responses to public concerns. "Among our key operational measures is the ensuring of maximum police presence in strategic locations to deter criminal activities and to immediately respond to public concerns," she stated.

Heightened Alert and Public Awareness Campaigns

While the PNP has not identified any specific threats, police units will be placed on heightened alert starting March 29. To complement this, Police Community Relations units will launch a massive information campaign to raise public awareness about safety precautions during travel.

Additionally, the Anti-Cybercrime Group has been directed to intensify cyberpatrolling and information drives. This effort targets fraudulent travel offers, fake online bookings, and other online scams that often spike during peak travel seasons.

Focus on Crowded Areas and Transport Hubs

All police regional offices have received orders to conduct thorough inspections and mobile patrols. Special attention will be given to crowded areas such as:

  • Bus terminals
  • Seaports
  • Airports
  • Other major transport hubs

This focus is crucial as travel typically surges during summer, with families taking advantage of long holidays and school breaks to visit provinces, attend reunions, and vacation in resorts, beaches, and other tourist destinations.

Timing with National Events

The deployment period coincides with several significant national events, including:

  1. Philippine Veterans Week
  2. Araw ng Kagitingan
  3. Labor Day
  4. Flores de Mayo
  5. Holy Week observance from March 30 to April 3

These events are expected to draw large crowds, further underscoring the need for robust security measures. The PNP's proactive approach under Oplan Ligtas Sumvac 2026 aims to create a safe environment for all travelers and participants during this busy season.
