Details of the Cagayan Incident

On March 13, 2026, police authorities apprehended two male suspects, aged 31 and 48, in Barangay San Juan, Buguey, Cagayan. They were linked to the killing of three cellphone technicians in the nearby town of Lal-lo. During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered a significant cache of items, including several firearms such as a 9mm pistol, an M16 rifle with a defaced serial number, improvised shotguns, and a rifle grenade. Additionally, ammunition, tactical gear, and mobile phones were seized.

The victims were discovered deceased on March 12 along a provincial road in Barangay Sta. Teresa, Lal-lo. Investigators reported that all three individuals sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Initial findings suggest that robbery was the likely motive, as approximately P1.1 million in cash and a cellphone belonging to one of the victims were reported missing.

Police investigations revealed that the victims had traveled from Tuguegarao City to attend a supposed gold sale meeting near Grupo Medico De Dios Hospital in Barangay Bulala, Calamaniugan, Cagayan.

Community Cooperation and Justice

General Nartatez also praised the crucial role played by the local community in assisting investigators to identify and pursue the suspects. "The coordination between the community and the local police was vital here. This proves that when the public trusts the police, case resolution becomes faster," he remarked, underscoring the importance of public-police collaboration in solving crimes efficiently.

Furthermore, Nartatez extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. "To the families of the victims, we offer our deepest condolences. We will not abandon you. Justice is being served, and we will ensure the prosecution is airtight," he assured, reaffirming the PNP's commitment to delivering justice and supporting affected families throughout the legal process.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges in public safety and the PNP's renewed focus on leveraging intelligence and community partnerships to enhance law enforcement effectiveness nationwide.
