In a significant enforcement surge, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 has apprehended 69 individuals and confiscated 31 firearms during a rigorous three-day campaign targeting loose firearms and illegal gambling activities throughout Central Visayas. The operation, which underscores a heightened police presence, reflects a strategic push to curb illicit practices in the region.

According to data released by PRO-7, the seized firearms comprise a diverse arsenal: two 9mm pistols, one .45 caliber weapon, seventeen .38 caliber firearms, nine .22 revolvers, two improvised arms, and one explosive device. These items were recovered through various police actions, including the service of 13 warrants of arrest, responsive police interventions, and coordinated buy-bust operations.
Voluntary Surrenders Under Oplan Katok
Under the Oplan Katok initiative, which encourages voluntary compliance, six expired firearms and 84 rounds of ammunition in various calibers were surrendered by owners who had failed to process their licenses. These items are currently held in custody at local police stations, pending further legal procedures.
Crackdown on Illegal Gambling
Parallel to the firearms campaign, PRO-7 targeted illegal gambling, resulting in the arrest of 56 gamblers. Most were caught participating in unauthorized numbers games such as swertres, hantak, card games, and tigbakay. Authorities also seized P9,605 in gambling stakes, highlighting the financial scope of these illicit activities.
Leadership and Strategic Goals
Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, chief of PRO 7, emphasized a zero-tolerance stance against the proliferation of loose firearms and illegal gambling in the region. "We will not allow these illegal activities to spread," Maranan stated, noting that operations have been intensified through frequent and coordinated actions across all police units.
Maranan further explained that all operations are conducted in alignment with directives from PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., aimed at enhancing police operations management and improving visibility. This strategic approach is designed to foster a safer environment and deter future criminal endeavors.
The combined efforts in Central Visayas demonstrate a proactive law enforcement strategy, with ongoing operations expected to continue as part of a broader initiative to maintain public order and security.
