Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan outlined the city’s proposed Fiscal Year 2027 budget priorities during the first Budget Forum 2026 on July 3, emphasizing climate adaptation, public infrastructure, healthcare, education, and digital services.
Budget Forum Highlights
Speaking at the forum, King-Chan stressed that the annual budget must serve as a roadmap for development while ensuring effective use of public funds. “The quality of our budget will be measured by the results it delivers. Every appropriation represents the trust placed upon us by the Oponganon people,” she said.
The forum brought together the Local Finance Committee, department heads, and city officials to align funding priorities with the City’s Executive and Legislative Agenda.
Key Funding Projects
Among the identified projects are the installation of solar power systems in government buildings, expansion of solar-powered streetlights, flood control measures, road improvements, and enhanced disaster preparedness. The city also plans to continue investing in digital governance, public health, education, sports, tourism, job creation, and social welfare.
King-Chan confirmed that the P20 rice assistance program for vulnerable sectors will continue under the city’s assistance programs.
Call for Fiscal Discipline
The mayor urged department heads to exercise strict fiscal discipline, directing them to submit necessary, strategically planned expenditure proposals that address immediate needs of residents. “Proposed expenditures must be necessary, strategically planned, and deliver meaningful public service,” she said.
