President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has assured that the Philippines remains a supporter of peace not only in the region but also globally, and thus does not wish to be associated with any system that escalates armed conflicts. This statement was made by the President regarding the possibility of criticism against the Philippines and other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) following the war between Russia and Ukraine.
According to the President, the government is carefully examining decisions related to trade and foreign relations to ensure that it does not become part of activities that may promote war. The President also explained that the Philippines' trade share with Russia is very small compared to that country's total revenue, so it cannot be said that it helps fund the war. The President emphasized that the government will continue to be cautious to ensure that the country is not involved in any system that encourages or expands war anywhere in the world.
It is known that the European Union, the United States, and even Singapore have imposed sanctions on Russia due to its war against Ukraine.
