PNP Implements Nationwide Security for Eid'l Fitr and Holy Week Celebrations
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has announced the deployment of extensive security measures across the country to ensure the peaceful and orderly observance of Eid'l Fitr, the Islamic holiday marking the end of Ramadan, as well as the upcoming Holy Week. In a statement released on Friday, March 20, 2026, PNP chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez emphasized that police units are strategically positioned to safeguard mosques, prayer venues, and Muslim communities during this sacred occasion.
Comprehensive Security Plan for Eid'l Fitr
General Nartatez stated, "Our security plan is in place to give our Muslim brothers the peace of mind on this important and sacred occasion." The PNP's strategy includes:
- Deployment of police personnel to key areas, including major mosques and open prayer grounds.
- Coordination with local leaders to ensure harmony during Eid prayers.
- Implementation of traffic and crowd management plans to handle large congregational gatherings.
- Standby quick response teams and medical units for emergencies.
Eid'l Fitr, known as the "Festival of Breaking the Fast," is a significant three-day holiday that concludes the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. Traditionally, it involves massive prayers, making effective security and logistics crucial. Nartatez urged the public to adhere to traffic regulations to facilitate smooth celebrations.
Zero Crime Target for Holy Week
In a separate initiative, the PNP is focusing on achieving zero crime during Holy Week by mobilizing a grassroots security network. Nartatez highlighted the importance of collaboration with barangay officials, stating, "While we already mobilized a sufficient number of our personnel to secure the Holy Week and the entire summer, we always deem our partners in the barangays as an integral part of our peace and order plan and implementation."
The PNP's approach involves:
- Strengthening coordination with barangay units to act as the first line of defense.
- Enhancing police visibility and quick response capabilities in communities.
- Directing police commanders to work closely with local officials for maximum implementation of peace and order plans.
This dual focus on Eid'l Fitr and Holy Week underscores the PNP's commitment to maintaining safety during periods of increased travel and gatherings. The security measures aim to protect both religious observances and public order nationwide.
