OCTA Survey: 69% of Filipinos Support Impeachment Trial for VP Sara Duterte

A recent survey conducted by OCTA Research has found that a significant majority of Filipinos are in favor of an impeachment trial for Vice President Sara Duterte. The poll, which was carried out from March 19 to 25, 2026, involved 1,200 respondents across the nation.

Survey Results and Regional Breakdown

When asked, "Do you think Vice President Sara Duterte should face trial in the Senate or an impeachment court to address the allegations against her or not?", 69 percent of respondents answered "yes". Only 28 percent disagreed, while 3 percent remained undecided.

The survey results show strong regional variations in support for the impeachment trial. Respondents from the Visayas demonstrated the highest level of backing, with 83 percent in favor. This was followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) at 81 percent and Balance Luzon at 69 percent.

Mindanao recorded the lowest support at 61 percent, which also corresponds to the highest opposition rate of 38 percent in that region.

Demographic Analysis and Public Awareness

Support for the impeachment trial was particularly strong among younger Filipinos. Those aged 18 to 24 showed 77 percent support, followed by the 35 to 44 age group at 73 percent. However, support decreased among older demographics, with only 60 percent of those aged 45 to 54 in favor.

The survey also revealed a notable difference between rural and urban areas. Rural respondents showed stronger support at 75 percent, compared to 63 percent in urban areas.

In terms of public awareness, OCTA reported that 87 percent of respondents were aware of the impeachment case filed against Vice President Duterte, while only 12 percent were unaware.

Methodology and Margin of Error

OCTA Research stated that the survey has a ±3 percent margin of error at a 95 percent confidence level. This indicates a high degree of statistical reliability in the findings, which were released on Wednesday.

The survey results come at a time of heightened political tension in the Philippines, as allegations against the Vice President continue to dominate national discourse. The strong public support for an impeachment trial suggests significant public interest in addressing these allegations through formal legal channels.
