A 21-year-old motorist has been formally charged at the Mabolo Police Station in Cebu City after fleeing a medical facility, facing allegations of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide and Damage to Property. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, following a fatal collision that claimed the life of a delivery rider.
Details of the Tragic Collision
The suspect, identified as Dendril Montehermoso, a resident of Sityo Upper Kawayan, Barangay Sambag 2, was involved in the initial crash with the victim, Ivan Serintas Avila, a 35-year-old delivery rider. The accident took place at the intersection of Gorordo Avenue and J. Solon Drive in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City. Avila succumbed to severe head and body injuries sustained during the impact.
Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Police Lt. Col. Franco Rodulf Oriol, spokesperson for the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), clarified that Montehermoso tested negative for alcohol in a liquor test conducted at the Cebu City Medical Center after the incident. Oriol emphasized that authorities have not received any information regarding a settlement between the suspect's and victim's families. "As far as the police is concerned, we will file the case of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide," stated Oriol, underscoring the commitment to pursue legal action.
Involvement of a Minor Driver
In a related development, a second driver involved in the incident, a 16-year-old minor, has surrendered to the police. This individual is currently undergoing assessment by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to determine the appropriate charges to be filed.
