The Department of Justice is set to conduct a preliminary investigation today in the high-profile plunder case involving former Senator Bong Revilla Jr. This follows a recent postponement initiated by the National Bureau of Investigation, which filed a motion to include additional respondents and evidence.
Postponement and New Developments
Originally scheduled for February 20, the investigation was delayed to allow all respondents, including newly named individuals, adequate time to prepare their defenses. The NBI, acting as the complainant, submitted a motion that introduced new names into the case, expanding the scope of the allegations.
Additional Respondents Named
Justice Spokesperson Atty. Polo Martinez confirmed that four former officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways have been added to the complaint. These individuals are former DPWH NCR engineers Denryl Caesar Cortuna, Manny Bulusan, Ruel Umali, and Arturo Gonzales Jr. Their inclusion marks a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings.
Legal Options for Revilla
In response to these new additions, Atty. Martinez indicated that former Senator Bong Revilla Jr. may file a supplemental counter-affidavit. This document would allow him to address the fresh evidence and respondents presented by the NBI, ensuring a comprehensive defense in the preliminary investigation.
The case continues to draw public attention as it progresses through the judicial system, highlighting efforts to address corruption allegations at high levels of government.
