NBI Director Confirms Active Verification of Fugitive Atong Ang's Whereabouts
National Bureau of Investigation Director Atty. Melvin Matibag has publicly announced that the agency is continuously verifying all incoming intelligence regarding the location of fugitive businessman Charlie 'Atong' Ang. This statement comes amid a high-profile manhunt for Ang, who faces serious criminal charges.
Conflicting Intelligence and Dedicated Task Force
Director Matibag revealed that the NBI is meticulously scrutinizing all reports, as information remains contradictory. Some sources suggest Ang is still within the country, while others indicate he may have already departed the Philippines. "We are examining every lead thoroughly," Matibag emphasized, noting the complexity of the situation.
In response to these challenges, the director has established a specialized task force solely dedicated to locating Atong Ang. This group will focus all investigative resources on tracking the businessman, whose disappearance has drawn significant public and media attention.
Serious Charges and Ongoing Search
Atong Ang currently faces grave legal accusations, including:
- Kidnapping with homicide
- Kidnapping and serious illegal detention
These charges are connected to the disappearance of several cockfighters (sabungero), a case that has sparked national concern. Despite intensive efforts, Ang remains at large, with his exact location still unconfirmed by authorities.
The NBI's ongoing verification process underscores the urgency and complexity of the manhunt. Director Matibag assured the public that the bureau is committed to resolving the case, utilizing all available resources to determine Ang's whereabouts and facilitate his apprehension.
