The proposed Lane Discipline Ordinance in Cebu City represents more than just a new set of road rules; it is a critical step forward for a metropolis often described as having traffic conditions that are congested and tangled worse than a knot. Under this ordinance, drivers, particularly motorcycle riders, will no longer be able to weave unpredictably through traffic lanes as if navigating a complex puzzle. Instead, each lane will have a designated purpose to streamline traffic flow. The innermost or left portion of the road is reserved for overtaking or as a fast lane, while the outermost or right side is designated specifically for motorcycles.
However, before enforcement begins, city officials must ensure that the public fully understands these new regulations. To address this, the Cebu City government will conduct a comprehensive 60-day traffic engineering study prior to installing road markings and signage.
